From design considerations to engraving
デザインの考察から彫金
久々のハーレー ダービーカバーへ彫金です、モチーフはビックリマン「サタンマリア」、
個人的には初期エンボス加工の「ゴーストアリババ」「魔スターP」辺りが再現性は高いと思いますが
今回はプリズムをどのように表現するかが課題になります。
まずはこの最高にかっこいいデザインを彫っていきます、アウトラインが太いので深めに掘り下げます、
肝心のプリズム部分は細い線で光の部分を区切ることにしました。

It's been a while since I've engraved a Harley Derby cover. The motif is Bikkuriman's "Satan Maria."
Personally, I think the early embossed designs like "Ghost AliBaba" and "Ma Star P" are highly accurate, but this time the challenge was how to represent the prism.
First, I'll carve this incredibly cool design. The outline is thick, so I'll carve it deeper.
For the crucial prism, I decided to separate the light with thin lines.
Inking and coloring to completion
墨入れと色付け、完成へ
調合した塗料で2回墨入れを行い、ペーパーで削りだします。
カラーは色々と悩みましたが3段階の濃淡で塗り分けました、髪、服の部分は少し質感を出してみました。
プリズム部分はベースにヘアラインを付けて明暗を塗り替えることで光の加減で表情が出るようにしています、
やはり元のデザインが素晴らしいと収まりが良いですね。。

The mixed paint is inked twice, then carved out with sandpaper.
I struggled with the color, but ended up painting it in three shades. I tried to add a bit of texture to the hair and clothing.
The prism parts have a hairline base and are repainted to change color so that the expression changes with the amount of light.
It really works well when the original design is great.
